Another comment on registry patching

I have absolutely no idea what any of that means...is there any way the process can be explained to a complete idiot?  =)  I just recently upgraded to Windows 10 and got the IE 6 error.  I found online somewhere about changing some numbers from these steps:

1. Open Registry Editor (RegEdit).
2. Navigate to the following registry key:

   For 64-bit Windows 10:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

   For 32-bit Windows 10:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

3. In the right pane, look for Version registry value.
4. Modify the value date to 9.11.10240.0, or any other value which the full length of version is shorter than or equal to a maximum of 15 digits.

And that made the IE 6 error go away, but now it crashes when I enter a new transaction similar to what this post seems to be referring to but I've reached my limit of technical know how in trying to understand your solution.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
